Michelle Williams plays the role of MARILYN MONROE for Vogue US October 2011 by Annie Leibovitz

On October 2009, Michelle Williams landed on the cover of US Vogue Magazine with a tom boyish look (link here) and this year, she has appeared again with a new look. She is impersonating Marilyn Monroe which is exactly what the US Vogue team is doing with her look. I love the fact that she has grown into somebody who deserves to be looked up to as a role model. With this cover, for me, she proves that she is a woman who is worth more than gold or diamonds! Williams will star in the upcoming movie My Week WIth Marilyn, which chronicles the 1957 filming of The Prince and The Showgirl. According to Vogue‘s cover story, the film had a pretty shaky production — the English actor Sir Lawrence Olivier was using the film to become more famous in Hollywood, and Monroe wanted to be taken more seriously. But the two clashed almost violently on set, which should make for an entertaining behind the scenes sort of movie.

On not being as guarded during interviews: “I feel like something has changed for me, but it’s a new change, so it’s going to be hard for me to describe. Maybe it has something to do with turning 30. I don’t feel as shy or nervous or self-conscious. I have more confidence that I can handle what life brings me. I don’t feel scared to have an idea and express it. I feel giddy about it because it’s a complete transformation. It’s like I’ve found my voice.”

On how daunting playing such an iconic figure was: “As soon as I finished the script [for My Week with Marilyn], I knew that I wanted to do it, and then I spent six months trying to talk myself out of it. But I always knew that I never really had a choice. I’ve started to believe that you get the piece of material that you were ready for.”

On gaining weight to approximate Marilyn’s curves: “Unfortunately, it went right to my face (puffs up cheeks to illustrate). So at some point it became a question of, Do I want my face to look like Marilyn Monroe’s or my hips?” (She opted for the former and filled out the latter with foam padding.)

Michelle’s new movie, My Week with Marilyn, opens November 4. It’s about a week of Marilyn’s life in 1956 while filming the movie The Prince and the Showgirl.
